After not touching the car for about a month I thought it was about time I did something on it. Seeing as the oil cooler was all done I thought the radiator and grill could go back in. I'd tested the radiator a while back and it held water ok, so I'm just going to use this one for now until it proves that its not up to the job. It was looking a bit tatty, so I gave it a lick of satin black paint. Much better. Bolted it back in. Then the overflow bottle had to be moved up as high as possible to clear the oil cooler hoses, but it fitted back in neat. The grille went back on ok, but not before I smashed it with the broom while chasing a bird out of the shed. Of course my perfect grill got a big old dent in it. I straightened it up as best I could. Then the rocker cover has been annoying me for a while. So I whipped it off and degreased it, paint stripped it, and etch primered it. Now to decide what colour to paint it. Also, the water pump looks a bit ordinary, with lots of alloy corrosion. So it might need replacing too. Next job it to sort out the plug on the coil wires that I broke when moving it around.

Instead of spending the little money I have on getting the car closer to running, I went and bought another pair of wheels. Not even a full set. Ah well, I do like wheels, and these 13x7" slot mags were too cheap to turn down. They're fairly clean, gave one a polish up and it looks good, but needs something a bit coarser to get the couple of blemishes off. I'm very happy with them though. I just need to find some nuts that fit now.

And wouldn't you know it, the wheels are the wrong PCD. Only about 95mm, not the 108 I need. Damn ebay listing being wrong!

Not much at all has been going on with poor old Bandit. I'm kinda in a slump motivation wise at the moment. I think its cause there are things I need to get done on it that I can't do, like the welding of arches and brackets, plus a few other things. But hey, it can sit there a bit longer and when I get to use my Christmas present from Carlyn (which was a day in the shed to work on it) I might get excited about things again. I have been looking at the seat position and the gear lever. Its just a little bit too far away when in 1st and 3rd. I either need to get an extension that goes back, or move the seat forward. More thinking needed here. I've also played with a new (old) centre console and my collection of gauges. Its the right idea, but the switches won't be reachable once I'm strapped in the harness, so not much point putting them there. And I thought I had an oil pressure gauge, but I couldn't find it. And then the next problem was the back axle. I spend an hour cleaning the grime off the 2L one so I could start thinking about getting it back together. But once clean I noticed the massive cracks in it. So its scrap. Lucky I've got another mk2 axle in the shed, so we'll clean that and see what it looks like. And lastly, I've been doing a bit of thinking about the crotch strap on the harness and how I'm going to mount it. That's about all though, just thinking.

When I was changing the radiator hoses I found the water pump was very corroded inside, so I grabbed a new one of them. And also my new master cylinder turned up. It was meant to be the same as the unboosted mk1 one that I already had, but of course its a mk2 one and the thread sizes are different and I don't know what bore size it is. Then I had a play with the twin cam arches to see what was what. Offered them up and they look like they'll do the job. But the sill trims and bumper were in the way so i pulled those off too. I hate taking stuff off the car cause I know it'll be years before it goes back on! The passenger side sill was ok apart from the jack dent. The drivers one might need some work, and the bottom of the front guard is cactus too. And finally, Matty was getting rid of some old Formula Ford tyres, so I had to grab those too :)

Again with the offering up of the arches this time with nothing in the way. Next step, work out how the hell to get them on there. Better procrastinate a bit more while I work that out. You can see the rot in the bottom of the drivers side guard too. I some ways it'd be nice to put a whole new guard on there, but I'm not sure that is an option. Also my tax treat for myself turned up from the UK, a beaut GRP4 Fabrications alloy radiator. Its a thing of beauty.
